Classroom working

Which Educational Employers in Leeds are you thinking of working for?

It is quite common during the careers of both teachers and support staff to change workplaces from time to time. Leeds NEU promote and protect the conditions of service for our members in every school across our Leeds District.

We believe it is useful for our members to have insight into prospective new employers and workplaces.

Following responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, coupled with our working knowledge of many schools and Multi-Academy Trusts, we know which schools and academies appear to share our values. With the creation of Academies, Free Schools and Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs), there can be a wide variation in working terms and conditions. Our FOIA requests asked for information on many key issues which we would hope to see in place for all educational employers. Where we have had responses, this has been entered into a database which you can view here. Where we have not had responses, we have left the data entry blank as we do not have that specific knowledge. It is hoped this information will help you in deciding who to work for in your next job.

You can find out which schools contractually incorporate National Terms and Conditions, which the NEU believe should be in place for all educators, as well as other important factors. These National Terms and Conditions are found in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (the STPCD or Blue Book), the Conditions of Service for Teachers in England and Wales (the Burgundy Book), and the NJC National Agreement on Pay and Conditions of Service (the Green Book, for Support Staff).

Our database includes what the NEU see as additional desirable working conditions of potential employers you may be considering working for.
Wherever we have a confirmation and/or evidence of a particular attribute being in place, a point is added to the tally for each school. You will be able to see which schools have these desirable working conditions, and which do not.

Whenever you are offered employment from a new employer, it cannot be stressed too strongly that you need to read through your new contract carefully before signing, and seek advice from us if you have any uncertainties.

Using the Map

Below is a map of all schools within the Leeds Local Authority Area. You can zoom in and out and move around on the map. You can use your keyboard ''CRTL' button and your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the map.

Clicking on any of the ‘markers’ will give the name of that school with a link to click which will lead you to another page of the data specific to that school where we have responses to each question (if supplied to us).

You can enter the name of a school in the ‘search’ box above the map and click on the black ‘Search’ box/button to have that school identified on the map – you can then click on this to see that school’s data.
